Camp Barkeley Tactical Training Center (CBT) provides advanced tactical training and practice for police SWAT teams, military spec ops units, and other qualified LEO and civilian groups. Unlike the classes offered by Texas Republic Firearms Academy, CBT sessions are not open to the general public.
The facility is located SW of Abilene, Texas. It is an easy 30-minute drive from both Dyess AFB and Abilene Regional Airport.
In addition to its nine gun ranges, the facility can lodge up to 50 operators in modern bunkhouse cabins, and feed the entire group at a single-seating in the rebuilt and modernized WWII dining hall. There is also a classroom, meeting room, and a 3 bedroom house for officers or support staff.
Formerly a U.S. Army base, Camp Barkeley was named after Medal of Honor recipient, John L. Barkley (spelling variation intentional), who died heroically in France during World War I.
During World War II, Camp Barkeley was used to train combat troops under the command of General George S. Patton and an Army medical school to train combat medics. It also had a unique role as the training center for troops who would free the Concentration Camps in Nazi Germany.
What is now Camp Barkeley Tactical Training Center (CBT) was the gun range portion of the historic Army base, combined with an extensive natural wildland area. It is a privately owned facility and is not open to visitors.
